About Backpack World -

Backpack world is a handcrafted book of puzzles. It is about moving in a line and never walking on the same cell twice. 

Along the way, you can pick up items that allow you to fuck with that topology, like a feather or a needle. There are also hats.

It is 178 pages long, A4 paper in landscape format, and was made in october & november 2025. It does not exist as a physical book as of now.

To play it, use a pdf reader that allows you to draw on the pdf. Mozilla Firefox or Drawboard do the trick just fine. Your tablet's (if you have one) default reader should probably work as well.

What's in the book -

(Slight spoilers)

• 10 Chapters, 15 to 30-some puzzles per chapter.
• 3 items to collect and use. (With cute little icons.)
• 3 hats that change how the items behave.
• Many more features that affect how you must plan your path through the backpacks. (That can all be interacted with in various ways.)
• Tough as nail "Backpack Workbench" puzzles to test your skills, where you must complete the puzzles before solving it. (Except in the first chapter. Sorry.)

The Rules & Hint companion booklet & Solutions companion booklet will be coming out once I get some playtest data out of this.

This is my first puzzle book; any and all feedback is much appreciated, if you wish to help me improve and make this game better.

A LOK-like game -

I played LOK in 2022, then again 2 years later, then LOK digital, and thought: I love this way to teaching puzzle logic implicitly, making the player discover the rules by herself, through observation, inductive & deductive reasonings.

This is my attempt at doing this. (I think the world needs more LOK-likes.)

It is mechanically rather different from LOK, partly inspired by my love for flip & write games - also I wanted to make a puzzle book where you have to build the puzzle first before solving it. (By putting items in a backpack. I love inventory management roguelikes.) Every part of this book is made to build towards these end-of-chapter puzzles.

(Sorry, I'm from the video game industry and we just can't help but make [something]-likes when we really love a game)

Release Schedule -

The 10 main chapters of the book are already complete, and will be released throughout 2026. Since all the work is already done, no delays can happen.
