Made in two days for MechJam IV

Game?

This is an asymmetrical strategy game for two players. You draft elemental cards that you can then load into your mech's armaments or reaktor to fight toe to toe against your opponent. Get their health to 0 to trigger the end of the game, but the one with the most health (even negative) at the end of the last turn wins! It's not over until it's over!

Your reaktor provides utility like healing and moving; weapons allow you to attack your opponent and inflict damage. You need to make specific combinations of cards (same value, same color, straights...) to deal more damage and trigger special effects.

Features 2 asymmetrical mechs from different constructors, each with their own mechanical identity and branding.

  • Try out the Chevalière d'Aphrodite from OTOMEI if you want an aggressive mech which relies on chip damage to heal its frail regenerative bio-hull, and thrives on being on the same height as your opponent, using fencing to close gaps and force movement by threatening devastating counters.
  • Or try  the 97-BEASTKNIGHT Vanguard from Silber Chordata, which gets even more than other mechs from height advantage, and has several tools to gain height. Try out accrobatic manoeuvres by rising with your ascent conditions, spending that height for advantages with your pilot ability, and going back to your initial square at end of turn! Or move downwards to drag down your opponent with your Arkana Felbeast and secure a height advantage when you return to your starting height at end of turn!

You can also play with asymmetrical pilots to spice up the experience; Giana Navaretti d'Angeline is a reckless hothead of a dragon who uses her dive to make agressive attacks on her opponents, improving her damage output to cut through their defenses. Amalia Heavensongr is a starlight dragon who can heal from star element cards and who needs to dive in order to have any cards in hand - because she always loads 2 cards into her REAKTOR when she FUELS!

RAMBL-MUSINGS

I had a lot of fun working on this, so there might actually be updates coming in various forms of future for this game. It's pretty fun to play, but a bit hard to wrap your head around, a bit overwhelming, and it's late so I'm afraid that the rules are probably a bit scuffed. Again. As usual. (I desperately need some help and feedback on my rules to iterate and learn how to unscuff them.)

I wanted to revisit my old mech vs game that I made for MechJam II, this time with some Actual Game Design (playtests and iteration) going on.

I love mechs so much, especially the idea of customizing your mech, so I kind of created this with the idea that you'd draft some modules to build your own mech. I'm very close to being able to play like that, just need to design a few more modules and mechs.

I also fused that with me wanting to put a spin on Dice Throne's engine, because I love asymetrical games but I craved for a more euro-y kind of design and more agency, so I made this... thing.

If you try even reading it I'll take any feedbacks or comments. If you try playing it and have any questions, by all means, ask away to help me unscuff this mess.
